TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee)

TAG = Transfer Admission Guarantee

TAG, the Transfer Admission Guarantee, gives transfer students guaranteed admission to 6 of the 9 UC campuses as long as they fulfill certain requirements prior to applying for TAG. All TAG applicants must complete the Upper-Division Transfer Requirements detailed on the CCC to UC main page.

Who can apply for TAG?

All students transferring directly from a California Community College (including international students). Students must also complete 30 semester (45 quarter) units at a California Community College. The last college a student attends within a regular session (not including summer) before transferring must be a California Community College.

Students who already have a bachelor’s or more advanced degree, students previously enrolled at a UC campus who plan to return to that same campus or who were not in good standing when they left, and students concurrently enrolled in high school at the time of applying MAY NOT apply through TAG.

Step 1. Choosing a campus

Only certain UC campuses offer TAG, of those that do, UC Merced also offers TAG for the spring term. Here’s the list of UCs that participate in TAG for fall 2027 and spring 2028 admission. You can TAG to as many campuses as you want, you can also apply regularly to TAG campuses just as you would to a non-TAG campus.

Step 2. Submit TAG application

Use the UC Transfer Admission Planner (TAP) to complete the TAG application.

Deadlines

  • September 30th for Fall term. The fall 2027 TAG filing period (September 1-30, 2026) has closed.
  • May 31st for Spring term (UC Merced only). For spring 2028 admission, the filing period is May 1-31, 2027.

Step 3. Submit UC application

All TAG students must still complete the regular UC application by the deadline. You must select the same major you selected on your TAG application for your UC application.

This also allows you to apply to other schools that do not have TAG/that you did not TAG to.

Step 4. Complete TAG requirements & All upper-division transfer requirements

Your TAG agreement will have certain course completion and GPA requirements. To ensure that you successfully transfer, meet all the requirements outlined in your TAG agreement. Reminder: Cal-GETC/IGETC is NOT required for TAG (except for Public Health at UC Merced).

If you are unable to complete the TAG requirements, you may still be admitted through regular transfer admission.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at a CCC at time of TAG application submission
  • Must have been enrolled at a CCC the Spring term before applying for TAG
  • Must continue to be enrolled at a CCC for all terms after submitting TAG and before transferring

 

Students not allowed to apply through TAG at UCD

  • Students enrolled in high school at time of TAG application
  • Students concurrently enrolled/planning to be enrolled at non-CCC colleges during the academic year before transfer
  • Students who have earned a bachelors/graduate/professional degree
  • Students previously enrolled at UC Davis
  • Students who attended colleges other than CCCs with more than 80 semester/120 quarter UC-transferrable units
  • Students pursuing these majors: Undeclared programs, Business, Computer Science, Data Science and Landscape Architecture (applicants are approved in pre-Landscape Architecture with no guarantee to the major).

Before you submit your TAG Application

  • Must have 30 semester/45 quarter UC-transferrable units completed
  • Must have a 3.2 GPA (3.5 GPA for majors in the College of Engineering) by the end of summer 2026
  • Must meet major-specific coursework GPA requirements (as outlined in ASSIST)
  • Must complete one English Composition course by the end of fall 2026 (the second may be in progress in spring 2027)*
  • Must complete one Quantitative Reasoning/Mathematics course by the end of fall 2026*

By the end of the Spring term before transfer

  • Must have 60 semester/90 quarter UC-transferrable units completed (half of these units must have been completed at a CCC)
  • Must complete four courses with a C or better from at least two of these subject areas: Arts and Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Physical and Biological Sciences*

UC Irvine

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at a CCC at time of TAG application submission
  • Must be enrolled at a CCC in your last regular term before transfer (not including Summer terms)
  • Must be in good standing for all prior colleges and meet all UC transfer eligibility requirement

 

Programs that do not participate in TAG at UCI

  • You are not able to submit a TAG application for these majors at UCI: Art, Business Administration, Dance, Music, Nursing Science, and all majors in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences

For fall 2028 admission, these UCI majors are also closed to TAG: Aerospace Engineering, Biological Sciences, Biology/Education, Business Economics, Cognitive Sciences, Computer Engineering, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Psychology (B.A. and B.S.), and Quantitative Economics.

Programs that do not participate in TAG at UCR

  • You are not able to submit a TAG application for these majors at UCR: Art (Studio)

UCR GPA Requirements

  • College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS): 2.8
    (Exceptions: Psychology, and Theater, Film & Digital Production 3.3)
  • Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE): 3.0
    (Exceptions: Computer Science 3.6; Computer Engineering 3.3; Mechanical Engineering 3.1)
  • College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS): 2.8
  • School of Business: 2.8
  • School of Education: 2.7
  • School of Public Policy: 2.7

UC’s TAG matrix and UCR’s TAG page don’t match on a few majors. The matrix lists TAG GPAs for Data Science (3.0) and Computer Science w/Business Applications (3.3), which UCR’s page doesn’t mention. UCR’s page says Education, Society, and Human Development with Teaching Credential is closed to TAG, but the matrix doesn’t. Check with UC Riverside before applying in these majors.

Before you submit your TAG Application

  • Must meet major-specific coursework GPA requirements (as outlined in ASSIST)
  • Must complete one UC-transferrable Math course and one UC-transferrable English course by the end of fall 2026*

By the end of the regular term before transfer

  • Must have 60 semester/90 quarter UC-transferrable units completed (half of these units must have been completed at a CCC)
  • Must complete major preparation for selective majors with no grade lower than a C
  • Must complete one additional UC-transferrable English course*

  • Must have a 2.8 to 3.0 GPA in UC-transferrable coursework by the end of summer 2026, depending on major (School of Engineering 3.0; School of Natural Sciences 2.9; School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts 2.8; Psychology and Public Health 3.0)
  • Must meet major-specific coursework GPA requirements (as outlined in ASSIST)
  • Must complete one UC-transferrable Math course and one UC-transferrable English course by the end of fall 2026*

By the end of the regular term before transfer

  • Must have 60 semester/90 quarter UC-transferrable units completed (half of these units must have been completed at a CCC)
  • Must complete the minimum course prerequisites for your major
  • Public Health majors must also complete Cal-GETC or IGETC
  • Must complete one additional UC-transferrable English course*

Spring 2028 TAG (filing period May 1-31, 2027): complete your first UC-transferrable English course by the end of spring 2027 and your second by the end of summer 2027. Your math course and all other TAG requirements must be done by the end of fall 2027.

 

UC Santa Barbara

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Attend a CCC in your last regular term before transfer (additional information available in TAG PDF)
  • If you have previously attended a UC, you must be in good standing there.

 

Programs that do not participate in TAG at UCSB

  • You are not able to submit a TAG application for these majors at UCSB: any major in the College of Creative Studies, any major in the College of Engineering, Dance B.A., Dance B.F.A., Music B.M., Theater B.A. (Theater Design Emphasis), and Theater B.F.A. (Acting Emphasis).

Majors that require major preparation coursework

  • Additional coursework as listed in ASSIST must be completed for majors in these departments: Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics & Applied Probability

UC Santa Cruz

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have completed half of all units at a CCC
  • The school you attend in the last regular term before transfer must be a California Community College (CCC) 

Students not allowed to apply through TAG at UCSC

  • Students in senior standing: more than 80 semester (120 quarter) units of combined lower- and upper-division coursework. If you only attended a California community college, you will not be considered in senior standing.
  • Former UC students who are not in good standing at the UC campus they attended (less than a 2.0 GPA at UC)
  • Former UCSC students, who must apply for readmission to the campus
  • Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Students who are currently enrolled at a high school
