All About Applying
How to apply to transfer to a four-year university
What application do I use?
UC Transfers
Use the UC Application
This is the only way to apply for transfer admission to University of California campuses. Students applying for the Transfer Admission Guarentee (TAG) will have to complete an additional application.
CSU Transfers
Use Cal State Apply
Using Cal State Apply, you can apply to all California State University and Cal Poly campuses using one application portal. This is the only way to apply for CSU/Cal Poly admission.
Private California College Transfers
Out-of-State College Transfers
Many different types of applications exist for out-of-state and private colleges
The most common applications used for out-of-state/private colleges are the Common Application and Coalition Application. Another application used for many HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) is the Common Black College App. These applications allow transfers to apply to many different colleges using one application. However, a large amount of colleges instead ONLY use their own applications – remember to always consult the college’s website.
View the college website or contact the college to ensure that you are applying using the correct method.
*It is recommended (if possible) that you only use either the Common App or the Coalition App as using both will cause you to have to undergo additional work. However, some colleges only use one or the other.
